PM Modi highlights 12 years of governance, from welfare expansion to tax relief

Marking 12 years of his government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted achievements spanning welfare schemes, infrastructure development, healthcare, women’s empowerment.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday outlined the achievements of his government over the last 12 years, presenting a wide-ranging account of welfare programmes, infrastructure projects, economic reforms and social initiatives that he said have transformed the lives of millions of Indians.

In a post on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister said the government remained committed to the principles of service, good governance and prosperity. He emphasised that the journey towards building a developed India would continue with the same focus on inclusive growth and citizen welfare.

Welfare schemes reach millions across the country

According to News 18, a major focus of the Prime Minister’s remarks was the expansion of welfare programmes aimed at supporting vulnerable sections of society. He noted that more than 81 crore people are receiving free food grains under government schemes, while over four crore houses have been constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

The government has also distributed more than 10.5 crore LPG connections through the Ujjwala scheme and facilitated the construction of over 12 crore toilets, improving sanitation and quality of life for millions of households.

On healthcare, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the reach of the Ayushman Bharat programme, which now covers over 60 crore people. He also pointed to the availability of affordable medicines through Jan Aushadhi centres and the extension of free treatment benefits to senior citizens aged 70 and above.

Infrastructure and economic growth remain key focus

According to News 18, the Prime Minister showcased several landmark infrastructure projects completed during his tenure, including major bridges and rail connectivity initiatives. He noted that India’s metro rail network has expanded significantly and that more than 160 Vande Bharat trains are now operating across the country.

According to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the number of airports has more than doubled over the last decade, improving regional connectivity and supporting economic activity. He also highlighted the growth of the startup ecosystem, which now includes more than 2.2 lakh recognised startups, alongside extensive skill development programmes for young people.

Women, farmers and middle class receive targeted support

According to News 18, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said women’s empowerment has remained a central pillar of government policy. He cited the opening of over 32 crore Jan Dhan accounts for women, the growth of self-help groups and the success of the Lakhpati Didi initiative.

For farmers, he pointed to direct financial assistance under the PM-Kisan scheme, crop insurance payouts and procurement at minimum support prices. He also highlighted tax reforms that have effectively exempted individuals earning up to ₹12.75 lakh annually from income tax under the new regime.

The Prime Minister further underlined efforts to preserve India’s cultural heritage through projects such as the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and the redevelopment of major pilgrimage centres. He said the government’s approach has been to combine rapid development with the preservation of the country’s civilisational identity as India moves towards its long-term development goals.
