Early vote-counting trends in the Bihar Assembly election show the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ally Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) pulling ahead in the race for 243 seats, as counting begins across the state.
Key seat leads & alliance scores
Tejashwi Yadav of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) is reported to be leading in his seat at Raghopur, even as NDA trends improve.
In Siwan, BJP’s candidate Mangal Pandey shows a lead in early counts.
According to preliminary numbers:
NDA alliance: BJP 23 seats, JD(U) 14 seats, LJP 1, Others 1
Opposition Mahagathbandhan: RJD 27 seats, Congress 5 seats, VIP 0, Others 0
The minor party Jan Suraaj Party (JSP), led by Prashant Kishor, also appears to be making its presence felt in a couple of constituencies.
What this suggests?
The NDA’s early lead is consistent with most exit-poll projections favouring the coalition. However, with full results still several hours away, the momentum could shift, especially in key regions such as Magadh, Seemanchal and Tirhut. The Mahagathbandhan remains confident of staging a comeback despite the early gap.
Political analysts caution that early trends are not final verdicts. A large number of postal votes, strongholds in remote districts and tight contests could still tilt the outcome. A decisive figure to watch will be the majority mark of 122 seats in the 243-member Assembly.
