With the second phase of the 2025 Bihar Assembly election underway, senior Janata Dal (United) leader Devesh Chandra Thakur has boldly predicted that the National Democratic Alliance will form the next government in Bihar with more than a two-thirds majority, and will sweep all eight seats in his home district of Sitamarhi.

In an interaction with ANI on Saturday in Sitamarhi, Thakur set a high bar for the NDA’s performance, declaring: “NDA will form the government with more than 2/3rd majority. We are winning all 8 seats of Sitamarhi.” He credited this confidence in part to the mood witnessed at a recent rally held by Narendra Modi, and noted the visible presence and campaigning of Nitish Kumar across districts.

Thakur’s remarks signal a sense of momentum within the ruling alliance and highlight Sitamarhi as one of its key prize regions.

First phase turnout and the opposition’s moves

Officials from the Election Commission of India confirmed a voter turnout of 65.08 % in the first phase (121 seats across 18 districts) of the election held on November 6. Backing up the JDU’s optimism, Mohan Yadav, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, who is on campaign duty in Bihar, cited the high turnout as a sign that the NDA is ahead and will secure an “absolute majority” in the state.

Yadav went on to taunt the opposition, hinting that Rahul Gandhi’s presence outside the state during the campaign suggested his party has already conceded defeat. Inside the NDA camp, there is a marked attempt to translate these positive vibes into on-ground votes and a convincing win.

The next few days will be crucial as the campaigning intensifies across Bihar’s 243-seat assembly and the battle lines sharpen. With the JDU and its allies projecting strength, watchers will be closely monitoring whether the NDA can turn this momentum into the kind of majority its leaders claim is within reach.
