Ahead of the Bihar elections, Tejashwi Yadav of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)-led INDIA bloc has announced that if his alliance comes to power, a law will be enacted within 20 days to guarantee a government job to at least one member of every family, with recruitment completed within 20 months.
Tejashwi Yadav announced the bold employment promise at a rally in the Khagaria district of Bihar, saying that the INDIA bloc will bring a new law within 20 days of forming the government to ensure that any family without a government job gets one.
He added that all recruitments under the scheme would be completed within 20 months of taking office. Unemployment remains a serious problem in the state, and this announcement places job creation at the heart of the campaign.
Can it be really done?
While Tejashwi stresses that this is a landmark move for Bihar families with over 2.7 crore households and a much smaller number of existing public-sector jobs, the scale of the proposed hiring is vast.
It is yet to be seen how the ruling alliance reacts to this new claim by the INDIA Bloc in Bihar, but initial reactions suggest that the ruling government is reportedly dismissing this promise as a poll gimmick.
