Prashant Kishor announced that he will not contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.
“The members of the party have decided that I should focus on working for the victory of the other candidates of the party, so I am not contesting the elections,” Kishor told PTI in an interview.
“I did go to fight polls, I looked into it, but the party's decision is most important, and I also stand by it.”
Kishor, who launched his Jan Suraaj Party in October 2024, said contesting personally would have “distracted” him from his broader mission of building a strong alternative in Bihar’s politics. “If I were to contest, it would have distracted me from the necessary organisational work,” he said.
For months, speculation had been swirling that Kishor would make his electoral debut from Raghopur, the RJD bastion held by Tejashwi Yadav.
But, his party fielded Chanchal Singh, a local businessman, from the seat. “The party has decided that I should not contest the assembly polls. And therefore, the party has announced another candidate from Raghopur, against Tejashwi Yadav,” Kishor confirmed, per PTI.
Kishor said the party’s campaign will focus on governance reforms and corruption-free administration. “We have promised to rid Bihar of land mafia, sand mining mafia, and all other types of mafia. To this end, we have made six promises, including the scrapping of the bogus (farzi) prohibition policy,” he said.
The Jan Suraaj chief also pledged to target “the 100 most corrupt politicians and bureaucrats.”
