Who is Dipankar Bhattacharya? The key campaigner behind the CPIM-L assembly election campaign

Through thick and thin, Dipankar Bhattacharya rose as a strong leader, when the CPIM captured most of the area of the red flag domain, Dipankar Bhattacharya led CPIML to glory and rose as the key campaigner behind the CPIM-L assembly election campaign. He has been to the party for 32 years and came into the limelight when he worked on the farmer's front.

Details about his political life

Dipankar Bhattacharya was first involved in political work during his student life at the Indian Statistical Institute. Between 1982 and 1994, he worked as the general secretary of the Indian People's Front and later became the general secretary of the All India Central Council of Trade Unions.

After the death of Vinod Mishra in December 1987, he was elected to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation who had served as the general secretary of the party Bhattacharya was unanimously elected to succeed him.

Political ambition

He has political aspirations of Bihar’s youth and grassroots voices demanding dignity, employment, and accountability. He also highlights the unequal resources in elections and emphasises people-powered politics, crowdfunding, and ideological alliances formed to “save democracy” in what they call a dangerous new India in a video by Samdish.

He rejects big-money politics, arguing that true resources come from people themselves. He also talks about the youth expressing frustration over unemployment, migration, corruption, and lack of development under long-standing governments. He wants to see a Bihar where jobs, education, respect, and transparency become central; where caste barriers fade; and where leaders genuinely work for public welfare. While talking in a video uploaded by unfiltred by Samdish, he mentioned, ”I have a house in Kharuria village. I am not fighting for money. I am fighting for my people. I am fighting for employment. I am fighting for jobs of the youth.”

Dipankar Bhattacharya stands today as one of the most articulate and grounded voices of the Indian Left. His politics blend ideological conviction with a lived understanding of people’s struggles. His leadership of the CPI(ML) reflects organisational continuity and a renewed attempt to anchor politics in justice, rights, and community participation.
