Aryan Khan made his directorial debut, ‘Bads of Bollywood’, and how could there not be excitement surrounding it? This was, in fact, Aryan's trial by fire. The slightest misstep, and he'd be branded a 'nepo kid' - a thought that must have crossed his mind.
But the young director didn't let fear hold him back. Instead, he played his cards with an open hand. And in doing so, he passed the nepo test with flying colors. In this case, Shah Rukh Khan, too, must have breathed a sigh of relief.
The series has captivated netizens with its brilliant humor, action, and intriguing twists.
Plot of the 'Bads of Bollywood'
Asmaan Singh (Lakshya Lalwani) comes to Mumbai from Delhi to become a film star. His mother (Mona Singh) had once made the same journey. But she never progressed beyond being a background dancer. Asmaan's first film, however, is a superhit. The path thereafter, though, was anything but smooth for him.
He falls in love with superstar Ajay Talwar's (Bobby Deol) daughter. Ajay doesn't want Asmaan to develop a relationship with his daughter. But why? Is it merely to protect the superstar's image? Or is there another reason behind this? The answer to this question will be revealed in the series' climax.
Being Shah Rukh Khan's son
Aryan was bound to have some extra advantages. For instance, he managed to rope in the three Khans for one series. Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Badshah, Karan Johar, Sanya Kapoor, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Rajkummar Rao, Arjun Kapoor - who isn't in this series? Each playing themselves, and quite enjoyably so. But nepotism alone couldn't have propelled him forward.
For that, one must praise Aryan's intelligence. There are many scenes where, as a Bollywood insider, he has beautifully portrayed industry nuances. For instance, he's included a character modeled after Sameer Wankhede, who goes around investigating which Bollywood personalities are using drugs.
Of course, this character is the subject of some jest. But the fact that he, as a newcomer, dared to include such a character is commendable in itself. In an awards show scene, both Shah Rukh and Salman Khan were nominated for best actor. Salman had stood up even before the name was announced that day. But the award went to Shah Rukh. A similar scene is enacted here by Siddhant and Lakshya.
However, this series isn't just Aryan's. It belongs equally to Lakshya, Raghav Juyal, and Bobby. Lakshya and Raghav had previously acted together in the film 'Kill'. It goes without saying that both their career graphs are on an upward trajectory. It's also pleasing to see Manoj Pahwa, Mona Singh, Sahir Bamba, and Anya Singh. The series is definitely worth a watch.
