In a major development in the mysterious death case of popular singer Zubeen Garg, the CID’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) has arrested his manager Siddharth Sharma and North East India Festival organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta.

According to reports, Siddharth Sharma was arrested from his flat in Gurugram, while Shyamkanu Mahanta was detained at the Delhi airport immediately after returning from Singapore.

Police sources revealed that both the accused were flown back to Guwahati from Delhi early Wednesday morning. Earlier, the SIT had already arrested Shekharjyoti, the drummer of Zubeen Garg’s band, in connection with the case.

Following Zubeen’s tragic death by drowning in Singapore on September 19, the Assam government formed a 10-member SIT headed by Special DGP M.P. Gupta to investigate the matter. The team had earlier issued summons to Sharma, Mahanta, and members of the Singapore Assam Association to record their statements. However, both Sharma and Mahanta had been untraceable since the notices were issued, prompting their arrests.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had previously announced that Interpol lookout notices were issued against both Sharma and Mahanta, requiring them to appear before the CID by October 6.

Meanwhile, Zubeen Garg’s wife Garima Saikia Garg has demanded a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her husband’s death. Speaking to PTI, she said, “We want to know what really happened to him, why it happened, and how such negligence was possible. We deserve answers.”

Garima stated that she is not ruling out anyone who was present with Zubeen on the day of the incident. Her suspicion is primarily directed toward Siddharth Sharma, Zubeen’s manager. She remarked, “The video clearly shows Zubeen was extremely exhausted. Why wasn’t he pulled out of the water immediately? It would have been easy to do so.” She has urged authorities to investigate the case properly and reveal the true cause of his death.
