The cause of death of Assamese icon Zubeen Garg remains unclear. The singer passed away under mysterious circumstances while scuba diving in Singapore, where he had gone to attend the North-East Festival. The incident has sparked widespread suspicion among the people of Assam and Zubeen’s fans.
The Assam government is actively investigating the matter. Even after an autopsy was conducted in Singapore, a second post-mortem was carried out at Guwahati Medical College. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to probe the case. One of Zubeen’s group members, Shekharjyoti Goswami, has already been taken into police custody, while several others are listed as suspects.
Papon’s emotional tribute and appeal
Singer Papon, a fellow Assamese and longtime friend of Zubeen, expressed his grief on social media. Both artists had started their journeys in Bollywood around the same time, making Papon’s loss personal. He traveled to Jorhat in Sonapur, Assam, to pay his last respects.
Papon shared an old photo of himself and Zubeen and wrote, "Missing you so much my brother. Stay happy wherever you are. He also appealed to the Assam government to complete the investigation quickly, writing, may we "get answers to all our questions we ask for soon.”
SIT to question eyewitnesses
Meanwhile, the SIT has confirmed that everyone who was present with Zubeen on the day of the accident in Singapore will be questioned. Zubeen’s group drummer, Shekharjyoti Goswami, has been summoned to appear before the court.
