Are banks and stock market staying open this Diwali 2025?

The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) would be closed for Diwali and other holidays, but will remain open on Dhanteras. However, a special one-hour Muhurat trading session will be conducted on the occasion of Diwali.

Details of the trading holiday calendar for 2025 are mentioned below

The main day of Diwali is on Monday, October 20, 2025, which will be a regular trading day both for NSE and BSE. However, the stock market holiday for Diwali would be on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, for Diwali-Laxmi Pujan.

Normal stock market timings

Pre-open session: 9:00 AM to 9:08 AM

Trading session: 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM

Closing session: 3:40 PM to 4:00 PM

Muhurat trading outlook: Date and Time

A special one-hour trading session, known as Muhurat trading, would be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, to mark the beginning of the new Samvat 2082. The timings for the trading are as follows:

Pre-open market: 1:30 PM to 1:45 PM

Muhurat trading session: 1:45 PM to 2:45 PM

Random closure of the market will be in the last one minute.

Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX) holiday

Trading session on MCX will be kept on pause on October 21 and October 22 to mark Diwali Laxmi Pujan and Balipratipada. However, the exchange would reopen on October 22 for the evening session. The Muhurat trading session on October 21 is yet to be announced.
