US tech giant Nvidia and Germany's Deutsche Telekom announced on Tuesday a landmark partnership to build a one-billion-euro ($1.1 billion) Industrial AI Cloud center in Germany. The aim is to create a powerful and secure artificial intelligence hub that would boost innovation for European businesses. The facility will be in a refurbished data centre in Munich and is expected to go live in the first quarter of 2026.

In the words of the companies, this AI factory represents a major push to strengthen Europe's technological independence, as said by one of the telecom operators and mentioned in The Hindu reports.

The main aim of the center is to provide a sovereign AI platform. European companies, in this respect, ranging from large corporations down to small startups, can develop, train, and use advanced AI applications without their sensitive data having to leave the continent. This directly addresses the growing concerns in Europe about data privacy and reliance on foreign technology infrastructure.

The Hindu reported that under the partnership, Deutsche Telekom will provide physical infrastructure and networking operations, while Nvidia contributes its cutting-edge technology. For this facility, as many as 10,000 of the most advanced GPUs would come from Nvidia, including its latest Blackwell architecture. The installation would boost Germany's total AI computing power by some 50%.

The project is a significant part of the “Made for Germany” initiative, supported by other major firms like SAP. SAP will provide the software platform to help companies integrate AI functions directly into business operations.

Industry leaders have praised the move as a transformative step for Germany's industrial heartland. "Germany's engineering and industrial strengths are legendary, and now it's being supercharged by AI," said Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang at the Berlin launch event for the project, as mentioned in The Hindu.

The AI cloud will enable advanced applications across industries like manufacturing, robotics, and automotive design. Siemens and BMW are expected to be the first companies to use the platform and develop digital twins, highly detailed virtual simulations of factories and products.

As cited in The Hindu reports, Deutsche Telekom’s chief executive officer, Timotheus Hoettges, underlined the strategic relevance of the project: “AI is a huge opportunity. It will help to improve our products and strengthen our European strengths.”
