The banking customers in India should plan their bank visits next week due to a series of closures next week because of numerous festivals and RBI-mandated holidays.

Bank holidays next week: October 6-12, 2025

1. The banks will be closed in the regions of Agartala and Kolkata for Lakshmi Puja on October 6 (Monday).

2. The banks will be closed in the regions of Bengaluru, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, and Shimla for Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti / Kumar Purnima on October 7 (Tuesday).

3. The banks will be closed in the region of Shimla for Karva Chauth on October 10 (Friday).

4. The banks will be closed across India for the second Saturday weekly off on October 10 (Friday).

5. The banks will be closed across India on Sunday in October 12 (Sunday).

What to do in an emergency when the banks are closed?

According to Livemint, people planning to visit branches of the State Bank of India (SBI) or other significant banks should inspect local holiday announcements before heading to the respective banks. The Reserve Bank of India’s guidelines assure that all branches observe the second and fourth Saturday of every month as holidays, in addition to every Sunday.

This approach means some regions will enjoy a long banking break, which might disrupt the last-minute account needs or scheduled withdrawals, particularly when associated with localised festive closures. Despite these closures, important financial services are mostly untouched. Customers can easily access online and mobile banking platforms for most procedures, except during rare scheduled downtimes. The ATMs remain active for round-the-clock cash withdrawals, and UPI or app-based payments will continue without significant disruption, therefore making these the go-to solutions during the festive rush.

The key is planning: complete vital dealings in advance and avoid waiting until the last hour to settle urgent cash or banking matters. The people are asked to be aware of bank holiday plans as the festival spirit sweeps across India, ensuring celebrations remain hassle-free. It is a good time to double-check the standing instructions of the EMI payments, and transactions involving any large fund transfers are advised to be made before with a good amount of time in hand.

The packed festival calendar in October will witness long weekends and several region-specific holidays. Indian bank customers should schedule their branch visits and financial activities in prior. The use of digital banking will make the financial work in this season easier, therefore letting families focus on the festivities rather than cash dealings.
