MCX is India’s largest commodity derivative exchange, holding approximately 98 percent of the market share in commodity futures trading by value. The exchange allows trading across a wide range of commodity contracts, including gold, silver, energy, base metals, and agricultural commodities.

Technical glitches on MCX

Tuesday, 28 October 2025, the Multi Commodity Exchange(MCX) trading window was frozen due to a technical glitch. The usual 9:00 AM rush of traders was delayed, and the entire system is at a standstill.

At first, a notice flashed in the window, “Trading would start at 9:30 AM. Trading was already scheduled at a delay of 30 minutes. But again at 9:30 AM, the issue was not solved and hence got delayed further 30 minutes to 10:00 AM. The next update was that the exchange was activating its “Disaster Recovery” (DR) site.

According to a message on the MCX website, “Update as on 11:49 AM - The commencement of trading is delayed due to a technical issue. Trading will start from the DR site. The time of commencement of trading will be informed to market participants. Inconvenience is regretted.”

As time passed by, the frustration of traders was more noticeable, as it was not just an IT problem, but it was holding millions in capital hostage, leaving traders completely blind and powerless. For those who trade in volatile commodities like gold and silver, every minute of downtime is not just losing time, but it is like losing opportunity, and for some, the risks rise high.

However, this is not the first time MCX has faced a technical issue. In July, the exchange faced the same issue when the trading began at 10:15 AM, which was a delay of 1 hour and 15 minutes.

At 12:30 AM, the MCX share price was trading at 1.78 per cent lower at rupees 9,139.50 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
