September 8, Monday:
Following the 56th GST Council's decision to lower GST rates, Hyundai and Tata Motors have announced significant price reductions throughout their passenger vehicle portfolios, providing much-needed relief for car buyers. The revised rates from September 22, 2025, reduce GST on sub-compact cars to 18% from the previous 28%, with SUVs now coming under the 40% slab without any additional cess. Electric cars will still get the concessional 5% slab.
The action followed soon after Mahindra & Mahindra and Renault also declared comparable price cuts to transmit the benefits of the tax reduction to consumers. Hyundai and Tata Motors both have assured that they are passing on the full benefit of the GST decrease to consumers.
Hyundai’s price cuts extend across its popular models, with reductions ranging from around ₹60,000 to over ₹2.4 lakh.
