Just before the start of the festive season, the Centre had decided to reduce GST on cars. Since then, a section of experts had been anticipating an increase in car buying trends. The country's automobile market witnessed this on the day of Dhanteras. In just 24 hours, car company authorities delivered one lakh vehicles. This created a new milestone in terms of single-day car sales, according to a section of experts.
News agency reports have claimed that cars worth ₹8,500 to ₹10,000 crore were sold across the country on Dhanteras day. The average price of cars sold that day was between ₹8.50 lakh to ₹10 lakh. Maruti Suzuki India, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Hyundai Motor India sold record numbers of cars on Dhanteras day.
On this matter, Federation of Automobile Dealers Association Vice President Sai Giridhar said that for the first time across the country, more than one lakh cars were sold in a single day. This is a record not only for Dhanteras day, but also for Navratri. The current Diwali season is set to be one of the best seasons for car companies.
He claimed to the news agency that interest among buyers for small cars has increased. The increase in small car sales on Dhanteras day helped the four-wheeler sector set a new record for single-day car sales.
The report further claimed that according to automobile industry estimates, before this year's Dhanteras, car sales in a single day were between 75,000 to 80,000. Maruti Suzuki India authorities, the country's largest passenger car manufacturing company, delivered more than 50,000 cars for the first time on a single day during this year's Dhanteras.
In 2024, Maruti Suzuki delivered close to 42,000 cars in a single day. Compared to that, the company authorities have delivered 20-25% more cars during this year's Dhanteras.
Notably, the Dhanteras tithi was from Saturday 12:18 pm to Sunday 1:51 pm. Customers bought cars extensively during this period.
