The Indian stock market, which includes the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), will observe a holiday on Wednesday, November 5, 2025. The trading holiday has been declared on account of Guru Nanak Jayanti, which is also known as Gurupurab or Prakash Prav. This will be the only trading holiday for the domestic stock markets in November 2025 and, consequently, a shortened four-day trading week.
Guru Nanak Jayanti is a major festival of Sikhs. This day is celebrated to commemorate the birthday anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism and the first of its ten gurus. This is the 556th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.
All market segments will be shut according to the official trading holiday calendar issued by the exchanges, which includes:
The Equity segment
Equity Derivatives segment
Currency Derivatives segment
Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB) segment
Commodity market schedule
While the equity markets would be completely shut, the Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX) market will observe a partial holiday.
Morning session (9:00 AM to 5:00 PM): The morning session of MCX will be completely closed on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.
Evening session (5:00 PM to 11:30 PM): The evening session will be kept open, and trading will be conducted on usual days.
Market outlook and Next holiday
The holiday gives investors and traders a mid-week relief. After this break, investors will only have one more trading holiday to mark in their calendars for the remainder of 2025. The final stock market holiday for the year will be on Thursday, December 25, on account of Christmas.
