Having stood at the twilight of his career, he made a comeback to the national team. After one of the worst seasons in IPL, he bounced back again. Towards the end of his career, Karthik was seen in a different avatar. Now, having bid farewell to all forms of cricket, he has turned his attention to coaching and commentary. This time, he will be seen wielding the bat once more. Dinesh Karthik has been appointed as the captain of Team India.

He has been chosen to lead Team India for the upcoming Hong Kong Sixes tournament. His experience in T20 cricket and recent success in coaching have been the deciding factors in his selection. After retiring from all forms of cricket in 2024, he became the assistant coach and mentor of Royal Challengers Bangalore, under whose mentorship RCB clinched the trophy.

Ashwin to feature this year; full squad yet to be revealed

Announcing the new responsibility, Cricket Hong Kong wrote on social media, "Dinesh will be an inspiration in this tournament due to his vast experience, leadership ability, and destructive batting skills. His inclusion in this tournament will also enrich Hong Kong cricket." The tournament will run from November 7 to 9.

In 2024-25, Robin Uthappa led Team India, which was accompanied by Manoj Tiwary, Kedar Jadhav, and Sreevats Goswami. This year, Ravichandran Ashwin will play. However, the rest of the team composition has not been announced. In this tournament, each innings is five overs long, thus sparing players from prolonged physical exertion.

This tournament has been running since 1993. After continuing until 2017, it was suspended until 2024. During this period, India won only once, in 2005. They were runners-up in 1996. Last time, Sri Lanka emerged as champions with Pakistan as runners-up.
