Listing Australian spinners with 50+ wickets in home ODIs, Adam Zampa makes place in top 5

Australian spinner Adam Zampa reached a new milestone on Friday,23 August, claiming 3 wickets against South Africa, accumulating to 52 wickets in ODIs played on home ground, placing him in the Prestigious club among legends like Shane Warne and Peter Tyler.

Adam Zampa, Australia’s white ball spinner, created history after taking up 3 wickets against South Africa during the second ODI match at Mackay’s Great Barrier Reef Arena. He became the fourth Australian spinner after Shane Ware, Brad Hogg, and Peter Taylor to reach the landmark of picking up more than 50 wickets in ODIs on home turf, carving his name among the greats.

Zampa picked up 3 wickets after bowling his full quota of ten overs and granting South Africa 63 runs. Although his efforts were not enough to get his side home as South Africa convincingly managed to win the game by 84 runs, scoring 277 runs after winning the toss and electing to bat first on a seemingly batting-friendly pitch.

Having said that, Australia has always claimed a reputation for possessing some of the world’s best bowlers, ranging from spinners to pacers. Considering the current playing conditions, spinners weren’t the favorites. Still, the instances of a handful of players mastering the art of spin and utilizing it in their favour to bring success in the limited-overs format.

Allen Border

On the ranking list, number five is held by Allen Border, a great batsman who was a part-time left-arm spinner who claimed 37 wickets in home ODIs, while his spinning skillset was mostly used as a surprise element of the match. His placement on the list shows his values in the team as an all-rounder.

Adam Zampa

Adam Zampa has recently claimed the fourth place on the list, making it evident as a crucial part of the Australian cricket team, taking 52 wickets in ODIs, utilizing his combative nature, aiming to pick up wickets in the middle of overs.

Brad Hogg

Claiming the number three slot on the list is the Australian great Brad Hogg. His deceiving bowling style as a left-arm chinaman spinner made him very effective in limited-overs cricket. Playing 43 home ODIs, Hogg scalped 57 wickets.

Peter Taylor

Peter Taylor, with his capability to knock down wickets with an excellent economy rate, made him the spin spearhead of Australia from 1987 to 1992. He represented Australia in 61 home ODIs and acquired 77 wickets to his name. Despite his short-lived international career, he was the go-to spinner for Australia during that time.

Shane Warne

Taking the number one spot in this list is the late great Shane Warne, widely regarded as the greatest spin bowler of all time. Warne fetched an astonishing 134 wickets in 84 home ODIs with 5 for 33 as his best bowling figures against the West Indies. His immense control of Australian pitches made him very effective.
