10 September, Wednesday India started their Asia Cup campaign with a blistering win against the UAE. Team Indian bowlers made the UAE team all out in just 57 runs, and they chased down the target in just 4.3 overs and set a record for the fastest ever win in T20 cricket.
However, it was expected that the UAE would not be able to show their classics against mighty India, but no one thought that their win would come so easily. Masterful performances from the bowlers ended the UAE innings in just 57 runs.
Surprisingly, Shivam Dubey, who does not bowl often, took three wickets in two overs, conceding only four runs. Spin master class from Kuldeep Yadav shattered the UAE batting line-up as he took four wickets.
From the UAE team, only two batters were able to make a double-digit score. Alishan Sharafu and Muhammad Waseem scored 22 and 19 runs respectively.
During the match, India's T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav earned praise for withdrawing a run-out request against UAE batter Junaid Siddique. The event occurred in the thirteenth over, when Shivam Dube's towel slipped during delivery, distracting the batter. Sanju Samson grabbed the ball and ran Siddique out, and the third umpire declared him out. Yadav, claiming fairness, immediately withdrew the appeal, allowing Siddique to proceed. Fans on social media praised it as the "true spirit of cricket," but some experts, including Sanjay Manjrekar, considered it unnecessary.
While chasing down, Abhishek Sharma hit 30 runs in 16 balls, and Subhman Gill scored 20 runs in just 9 balls. After Abhishek’s out, skipper Surya Kumar Yadav came into bat and scored 7 runs in 2 balls.
India will play their next match against Pakistan on 14th September.
