In a significant development in the investigation into the death of renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, the Assam government has decided to appoint a special public prosecutor exclusively for the case. This move underscores the state's commitment to ensuring a thorough and transparent legal process.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the appointment, emphasising that the decision aims to expedite legal proceedings and maintain public trust in the judicial process. The special prosecutor will oversee all legal aspects of the case, ensuring that justice is served promptly.

The investigation into Zubeen Garg’s death, which occurred in Singapore on September 19, 2025, continues to unfold. The Assam government has activated the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) with Singapore to facilitate international cooperation in the probe. Additionally, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to delve into the circumstances surrounding his demise.

As the legal proceedings progress, the appointment of a dedicated public prosecutor marks a pivotal step in the pursuit of justice for Zubeen Garg.
