Eligibility and importance

A compulsory certification for law graduates aspiring to practise within India is represented by the AIBE. Eligibility is open to those who have completed either a three-year or five-year LLB degree, including final-year students who possess no pending backlogs. Upon successful passing, a certificate of practice is awarded to candidates, enabling their appearance before courts and tribunals across the country.

The minimum passing marks are set at 45% for candidates in the General and OBC categories and 40% for SC, ST, and differently abled categories. Through this benchmark, an assurance is provided that all practicing advocates meet the basic professional standards expected within the legal field.

Why should students take note?

More than a mere procedural hurdle, the AIBE is regarded as a decisive step in the shaping of a legal career. A strong urging is made for candidates to complete their registration, fee payment, and form verification well in advance, thereby avoiding last-minute complications. By the enforcement of this structured process, uniformity and transparency are upheld by the BCI, thereby safeguarding the esteemed quality of the legal profession in India.
