September 7, Sunday: Tomorrow is going to mark the beginning of this Year’s first semester exam of the Higher Secondary Examination of the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education. This year’s examination is going to be conducted solely on the OMR answer sheet. This is the first time for any school certificate examination to take place in a Semester system in the country.
Confusion over OMR distribution raises concerns among schools
Many schools under the jurisdiction of various police stations did not receive the question booklet and the OMR sheets for the examination by Saturday. One such incident has left Animesh Halder, a supervisor of the Jhapberia examination centre of North 24 Parganas, worrying.
The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education has reassured, saying, everything has been going on according to the arrangements.
While this has been going on, there has been a growing concern amongst a part of the aspirants about the OMR answer sheet dilemma. The WBCHSE has released a step-by-step video tutorial on the Council’s YouTube channel to help answer students’ queries and to clear their doubts.
Students were found asking their own concerns regarding the OMR sheet in the comment section of the video. While some were found questioning the limited time period to complete answering all the questions, some were raising concerns about the inability to rectify their answers on the OMR sheet once the answer is marked.
At a glance, let's take a look at some necessary caution to follow while answering on an OMR sheet -
Carry the original admit and registration card distributed by the Council to the examination hall.
Only use a blue or black ballpoint pen to answer on the OMR sheet. Gel pen, fountain pen or pencils should not be used.
Fill up only the portions as per the instructions mentioned on the OMR sheet.
Refrain from writing or marking anything anywhere else except filling up the answer.
Fill up the roll and registration numbers using a pen.
Carefully fill up the Question booklet number from the question paper.
Mention the Subject name and signature where it is asking for the student's signature. The answering segment will start below
While filling up the answers on the OMR sheet, remember to fill in only one circle properly. Filling up more than one circle for a single question will count that answer as wrong.
Refrain from placing tick marks on the answer option instead of filling up the circle completely.
There will be 40 options to fill up the answers, but students can answer according to the question paper.
Keep the OMR sheet away from any kind of spilling substances like water, ink. Maintain caution during rainy days.
Mind the barcodes printed on the sheet. Writing on them will make the answer sheet invalid.
Keep the answer sheet clean. Try not to fold the answer sheet, as it will make it hard for the OMR machine to read the answers. May end up considering the sheet as invalid.
