After finishing work, the father had just returned home at night. As soon as his son saw him, tears welled up in his eyes. He had only one question— 'Father, when will you pay the school fees?'
The father, a laborer by profession, was devastated at the end of the day, thinking about financial constraints. He didn't even know then that his son had been forced to sit on the floor for the exam because he couldn't pay the full school fees. He was humiliated in this way to distinguish him from the other students. Not only that, there are allegations against the school authorities that they withheld the previous class results for the same reason.
Fahad Faiz Khan is a tenth-grade student at Salauddin Ayubi Memorial Urdu High School in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra. Recently, exams were being conducted at his school. According to sources, he faced this humiliation while sitting for the exam on October 3.
Meanwhile, due to financial problems, his father, Faiz Khan, could only pay 1,200 rupees out of the 2,500 rupees school fee for his son. But he could not accept such condemnable action by the school authorities for that reason. He told the media, “My son didn't want to go to take the exam at all. I convinced him and sent him to school. Later, I also went to the school myself to verify this incident of humiliation that happened to my son.”
Upon reaching there, he inquired where Fahad was taking his exam, and was only told that Fahad was sitting for the exam on the third floor of the school building.
But when he said he wanted to go there, the authorities informed him that it was prohibited. However, thinking about his son's insult and humiliation, he broke the rules and reached the third floor. In Faiz's words, “As soon as I went there, I saw my son sitting on newspapers spread on the hall floor, taking the exam. When I questioned the examiner about this, he told me to go to the principal.”
After that, without prolonging the matter, Faiz took his son from the examination hall and went straight to the police station. He filed a case with the police against the principal and other teachers involved in the incident. Later, however, the police arranged for Fahad to be sent back to school to complete his papers.
At the police station, Faiz informed that his son's school fee was 2,500 rupees. But due to economic reasons, he could only pay 1,200 rupees. His claim is that such inhumane treatment of a student for outstanding 1,300 rupees cannot be accepted.
He also informed that despite good results in class nine, even the report card was not given by the school because of inability to clear the dues. Naturally, the family of the humiliated student has also raised questions about the educational institution's violation of norms and student rights.
