The Ministry of Jal Shakti has launched a new Mass Communication Internship Programme for students and research scholars specialising in media, communications, or related fields. The scheme aspires to employ young talent in governmental media efforts associated with water resources, river development, and public awareness. The selected interns will be provided with a stipend and practical exposure across communication platforms.
Who’s eligible for the internship?
The scheme is open to students who have completed their graduation in Mass Communication, Journalism, or related disciplines, as well as those presently pursuing postgraduate or doctoral research in the field. The MBA (marketing) graduates may apply if they have the relevant specialisation. The internship period will range from six to nine months. The interns will be committed to working in media and social media activities under the Ministry’s Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation (DoWR, RD & GR).
Stipend & benefits
The selected interns will be provided with a monthly stipend of ₹15,000 along with a certificate upon completion. This stipend intends to make the opportunity accessible to many students who are looking to ease financial pressures while being offered hands-on experience in government communication work.
What will interns do?
Interns will be involved in assisting the key roles like media strategy, content creation, social campaigns, public communication, and possibly documentation of government schemes and initiatives in water conservation. The role will provide direct exposure to how ministries communicate with the public, translate policy messages for citizens, and work on multimedia outreach.
Application process & timeline
The interested candidates may apply through the online form hosted on the Ministry’s website. The last date for applications is 24 November 2025. The shortlisted candidates will be selected on the basis of the eligibility criteria, academic history, and perhaps writing or communication samples.
Why does it matter?
India faces critical water challenges such as scarcity, pollution, river rejuvenation, and resource management. Effective communication is an essential step to transform policy into behaviour change. This internship looks to bridge academic training with real-world impact. It will enable students to take part actively in awareness building. It also shows the government’s efforts to include fresh voices and creativity in public discourse.
The Jal Shakti Ministry’s mass communication internship embodies a promising convergence of youth, media, and governance. The aspirants in journalism and communications will have access to government machinery. They will have the ability to shape narratives, and will be provided an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to water and environmental awareness.
