Visvesvaraya and to draw attention to the contributions engineers have made to India's progress through special events, memorials, and educational initiatives. The day marks the birth anniversary of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, one of India’s most respected engineers.

IIT Bombay

The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay or IITB) is a public research university and technical institute in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. The institute has 17 academic departments, 35 additional academic centres, and three schools. It was established in 1958, and IIT Bombay was designated as an Institution of Eminence in 2018.

The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur

IIT Kharagpur is a public institute of technology, research university, and autonomous institute established by the Government of India in Kharagpur, West Bengal. It was founded in 1951, and the institute is the first of the IITs to be established and is recognised as an Institute of National Importance. In 2019, it was awarded the status of Institute of Eminence by the Government of India.

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi

IITD is a public institute of technology located in New Delhi, India. It has its satellite campus in Sonipat, Haryana, and the international campus in Abu Dhabi, UAE. It is one of the 23 Indian Institutes of Technology created to be a Centre of Excellence for India's training, research and development in science, engineering and technology. It has been ranked 26th internationally for Engineering and Technology in QS Rankings by Subject 2025. Overall, it has been ranked 123rd internationally in QS World University Rankings, a jump of more than 100 places in 10 years.

The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur

IIT- Kanpur is a public institute of technology located in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. As an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), it was declared an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India under the Institutes of Technology Act. As of January 2025, at least 17 Padma Shri, 4 Padma Bhushan, 1 Padma Vibhushan, and 33 Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize recipients have been affiliated with IIT Kanpur as alumni or faculty members.

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras

IIT-M is a public research university and technical institute located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It is one of the eight public Institutes of Eminence of India. As an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), IIT Madras is also recognised as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India.

IITM was the third Indian Institute of Technology established by the Government of India. IIT Madras has consistently ranked as the best engineering institute in India by the Ministry of Education's National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) since the ranking's inception in 2016.

To get into these IITs, in India, you have to sit for entrance exams such as JEE Main, JEE Advanced, and state-level exams for admission into B.Tech programs.
