NIRF Rankings 2025: NIT Trichy retains top spot among NITs, Rourkela climbs to 13th

The NIRF Rankings 2025 are out on its official website, @nirfindia.org. NIT Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) once again emerged as the top-ranked institute, preserving its 9th position in the overall engineering category for the third consecutive year.

September 6, Saturday: The Ministry of Education released the NIRF Rankings for the year 2025 and a deep dive into the published list, we can note that NIT Rourkela has made a significant leap, rising to the 13th rank in 2025 from 19th in 2024. NIT Calicut and NIT Karnataka, Surathkal, continue to be among the top 20 engineering institutes of the country, ranked 21st and 17th respectively. It also shows how once a consistent performer today has slipped to a lower spot. NIT Warangal, slipped to 28th place this year, down from 21st in 2024. MNIT Jaipur (42nd), VNIT Nagpur (44th), and NIT Silchar (50th) with all the fluctuations in their ranking continue to be strong contenders.

The NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) evaluates institutes based on multiple indicators like Teaching, Learning & Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practice (RP), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI), and Peer Perception. Such evaluations provide a critical yet important guide for young aspirants trying to crack the JEE Main. It complements NIT Trichy for its consistent performance across teaching, research, and placement holding its top position, while the rise of Rourkela inspires students to look forward to a strong research output and improved graduation outcomes.
