Filmmaker Ayan Mukerji has officially exited from Yash Raj Films’ (YRF) expected movie ‘Dhom 4’ and redirected his path towards the movie ‘Brahmastra 2’
According to multiple reports, this decision was made because of “creative differences” with Yash Raj Films (YRF).
Ayan Mukerji is known for films like ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’ and ‘Brahmastra Part 1’ will now be fully focusing on his own passion project, the ‘Brahmastra’ series.
Why this sudden change?
The script of ‘Dhoom 4’ was on the verge of finishing before Mukerji was fully involved, and hence he felt that there were little to no chances for him to add some more creative ideas.
Ayan Mukerji is known for getting himself deeply involved in script writing and world-building of his films, and he did not want to be a director who just follows and improvises someone else’s point of view. He is an actor who loves to make movies of big action with themes of romance and drama, and so he felt ‘Dhoom 4’ did not fit his style and vision.
Mukerji is said to have long conversations with YRF head Aditya Chopra and actor Ranbir Kapoor, who was rumoured to be the star of ‘Dhoom 4.’ They both coordinated and understood his perception, and the exit was friendly and professional.
What is next for Ayan and Dhoom 4?
Ayan Mukerji is now fully focused on the film ‘Brahmastra: Part 2 – Dev’. It is reported that Mukerji is in the final stage of brushing up the script. Fans can expect the starting date of filming Brahmastra 2 sometime in 2026.
As for ‘Dhoom 4’, Yash Raj Films still plans to make the movie. The studio will now look for a new director, possibly someone from their in-house team. With Mukerji's exit, it is also unclear if Ranbir Kapoor will remain attached to the project or if YRF will look for a new lead actor.
