Rajat Bedi, best known for Koi… Mil Gaya and International Khiladi, was set to make a grand return with Salman Khan’s Radhe. In an old interview, resurfaced on Reddit, Bedi recalled how he was initially thrilled to be cast in the film through Mukesh Chhabra’s office. “I completely accepted the offer for Radhe. I got a call saying I was selected, met the film’s writer, and felt it would be a great comeback vehicle for me,” he said, as quoted by The Times of India.
Bedi, who shares a family connection with Salman Khan, said he was excited to finally work with the superstar. “It’s a very good project, and everyone wishes to work with Salman bhai. Just getting a chance to work with him is more than enough for me,” he added.
However, his excitement soon turned to confusion and heartbreak when Salman personally intervened.
‘Bhai told me to wait’ — Rajat recalls Salman’s advice
“When Bhai found out that I was doing the role, he called me and said, ‘Rajat, wait a little. I want to give you a comeback vehicle that’s much better than Radhe,’” the actor shared. In another chat with PTI, Bedi recalled the same conversation at Mehboob Studio, saying Salman told him, “‘You’re not going to do this one. It’s not an appropriate role for you.’”
Although the actor admitted he felt disappointed at the time, he respected Salman’s words. “When Bhai says something, you can’t say no. He told me I had maintained myself well and promised me a bigger comeback,” Bedi said.
Years later, Salman Khan appeared briefly in Bedi’s eventual comeback project, The Ba*ds of Bollywood, directed by Aryan Khan — though the two did not share the screen.
The TOI reported that despite the initial setback, Rajat Bedi remains optimistic about his career’s second innings, still valuing Salman’s guidance and trust.
