Nearly three weeks after singer Zubeen Garg’s death in Singapore, his family has publicly demanded answers, questioning the circumstances that led to his sudden passing.

The Assamese musician, actor, and filmmaker’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, and sister Palme Borthakur have both taken to social media, calling for justice.

“...we will be together again, very soon, Goldie [Zubeen]. But now, very soon, I/we all want to know the reason why you went away physically from us...Why? This is a big question. This question is burning my empty heart day and night. I want an answer...” Garima wrote on Facebook.

Zubeen’s sister Palme, too, shared, “You will again call me ‘Momon’.... when we meet on the other side... now we have only one goal... to ensure justice for you,” she wrote. She also urged people to stand by the family in their fight for truth, asking fans and well-wishers to provide them with “mental support” as they seek justice for him.

The singer’s death on September 19, reportedly while swimming in the sea in Singapore, shocked fans across the nation.

CID launches major SIT probe into Zubeen Garg's death

Garima, who had earlier received the report of the second post-mortem examination conducted at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, returned the document to the Assam government on October 4. She clarified that the report was not her “personal document” and that it was up to the investigators to decide whether or not it should be made public.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the state government could not release the post-mortem report publicly “as this is a rule of the law,” adding that a certified copy could be obtained from the court.

Zubeen’s manager Siddhartha Sharma, musician Shekharjyoti Goswami, singer Amritprava Mahanta, and North East India Festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta have all been taken into custody. Over 60 FIRs have been filed across the state against Mahanta, Sharma, and others, prompting the chief minister to direct the DGP to transfer all cases to the CID for a consolidated probe.

The CID has since formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Special DGP Munna Prasad Gupta to look into the case.
