Is Jo Wilson really leaving?

There has not, as yet, been any official confirmation of Camilla Luddington exiting Grey’s Anatomy. Neither ABC nor the actor has indicated any exit plans. However, the events of the mid-season episode titled “When I Crash” have created widespread worry among fans.

First, Jo's pregnancy accelerated more than anyone had predicted; then it took a turn into crisis. At seven weeks early, she went into labour, and though the twins were stable, Jo's health began to deteriorate rapidly.

A dangerous diagnosis

During the emergency, Dr Winston Ndugu ordered tests that showed Jo was suffering from peripartum cardiomyopathy, a severe cardiac illness that can strike late in pregnancy or soon after delivery. As her heart failed and her breathing worsened, the medical team discussed possible interventions as medication and a pump could sustain her and the babies.

But events quickly spiralled out of control before Jo could even make a decision. Her blood pressure and oxygen started to drop, and the team had to rush her into the procedure room urgently to insert the pump.

An emergency c-section and a cliffhanger ending

As Jo's condition worsened, so did that of the twins. With the OB team still late and Jo in grave danger, Ndugu intervened. Although he had never done a delivery since medical school, he made the call to perform an emergency C-section.

It cut off just as he began the surgery, and there was no resolution provided. This only adds to speculation about the character's fate. It is for this reason that viewers speculate she may exit, even though there are no indications that Luddington is leaving the series.
