August 26, Tuesday: Taylor Swift is officially engaged to Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce. The pair, both 35, shared the happy news on Instagram on Tuesday, August 26, with a joint post featuring photos from a romantic, flower-filled garden proposal.
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married ????,” Swift captioned the post, showing off her engagement ring in several pictures.
Kelce proposed with a dazzling custom ring designed by Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewellery. The centrepiece is an ‘Old Mine brilliant cut’ stone.
The couple’s announcement photos include a shot of Kelce down on one knee while Swift, beaming, rests her hand on his cheek. Other images capture their embrace under a pink-and-white floral trellis.
Back in July, Kelce shared a carousel of moments from their offseason together with the caption: “Had some adventures this offseason, kept it ????.” The post included snapshots of the pair in matching outfits, sharing laughs, and even Kelce’s phone lock screen featuring a photo of himself with Swift.
Among the highlights were images of the couple enjoying a snowy getaway in Montana with friends Erin Andrews and Jarret Stoll. One photo showed Swift trying on Kelce’s black-framed glasses, while another featured the two in matching fluffy winter hats.
Their love story began in July 2023 when Kelce attended Swift’s Eras Tour stop at Arrowhead Stadium. He later revealed on his New Heights podcast that he had hoped to give Swift a bracelet with his number on it, joking that he was “a little butthurt” after missing his chance.
By September 2023, the Cruel Summer singer made a surprise appearance at a Chiefs game, cheering alongside Kelce’s mom, Donna. Reflecting on that time, Swift told Time in her 2023 Person of the Year interview, “So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other… By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple. I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.”
Since then, the couple has been spotted on cosy New York outings, surprise SNL appearances, and even celebrating at the Chiefs’ holiday party. Friends of the couple say their relationship “quickly turned more serious.”
