The makers of Kantara: Chapter 1 have issued a heartfelt appeal to fans, asking them not to mimic or perform the Daiva rituals shown in the film. In a statement posted on their official social media handles, Hombale Films said their intention was to showcase and honour the Tulunadu region’s spiritual traditions, not to encourage imitation.

The emotional letter from the production house came after several videos went viral showing fans dressed as Daivas dancing outside movie theatres to the film’s soundtrack. As reported by Moneycontrol, the production company said it was concerned about people performing such acts irresponsibly in public.

“Do not imitate the sacred,” urges Hombale Films

On the X handle, Hombale Films reminded audiences that Dhaivaradhane is the traditional ritual depicted in Kantara that holds deep spiritual meaning for the people of Tulunadu in Karnataka. “Dhaivaradhane or Daiva worship, as featured in our film, is rooted in deep spiritual tradition and is not intended for performance or casual mimicry. Such acts amount to trivializing our belief system and deeply hurt the religious sentiments and faith of the Tulu community.” the studio stated.

They further emphasised that the films Kantara and Kantara: Chapter 1 were created with “the purpose of respectfully portraying this devotion and celebrating the glory of the Daivas ,” not to inspire public performances or parodies. The team also expressed gratitude to audiences for their overwhelming love and appreciation for the story and its cultural depth.

Fans’ reaction sparks online debate

The post upsurged after fans began uploading clips of themselves dressed as Daivas, dancing and celebrating in theatres. While some social media users praised their enthusiasm, others criticised the mimicry as insensitive and disrespectful.

Hombale Films, in its message, urged fans to enjoy the movie responsibly and to appreciate the traditions it portrays without trivialising them. The team concluded by expressing hope that Kantara: Chapter 1 continues to connect viewers with the heritage and spiritual pride of Tulunadu in a respectful way.
