Just before the Puja festivities, the highly anticipated film Debi Chowdhurani is set to hit theaters on September 26. Based on Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s iconic novel, the historical drama brings to life a woman’s journey of identity, struggle, and rebellion, starring Prosenjit Chatterjee and Srabanti Chatterjee.
Amitabh Bachchan appreciates the film
Amitabh Bachchan, impressed by the trailer of Debi Chowdhurani, shared it on social media, writing, “All good wishes Bumba. May your journey of success continue. Best wishes.” Prosenjit Chatterjee responded with gratitude, saying, “Many thanks, Amitji. Your support is a huge encouragement not just for me, but for my entire team.” Srabanti Chatterjee also shared Big B’s post, saying “Grateful Sir from the bottom of my heart...Pranam.” This warm exchange highlights a beautiful connection between two generations of actors.
The story and performances
The film revolves around Prafulla, a simple housewife whose dreams of domestic life are disrupted by societal cruelty. Seeking shelter with Bhavani Pathak, she transforms into Debi Chowdhurani, a revolutionary woman and legendary figure. Apart from Prosenjit and Srabanti, the film features Kinjal Nanda, Sabyasachi Chakraborty as Prafulla’s father-in-law, Darshana Banik as Satine, Arjun Chakraborty as Rangaraj and Bivriti Chattopadhyay as Nishi, whose performances have impressed viewers.
Shot across North Kolkata, Birbhum, Purulia, and various parts of Bihar, the locations enhance the emotional depth of the characters. Vikram Ghosh’s music blends Bengali heritage, women’s strength, and revolutionary spirit, adding further resonance to the cinematic experience.
