Jaya Ahsan - a name that beautifully connects both sides of Bengal. The actress is equally loved in India and Bangladesh. While her roots are in Bangladesh, her heart holds a special connection with Kolkata. That’s why this year; she chose to spend Durga Puja in the City of Joy.
When asked how she felt about Kolkata’s Puja, Jaya told Ei Samay, “It’s been amazing! I’ve stayed up all night pandal-hopping, had bhog, spent time chatting with friends and even joined a Puja parade.”
The city of Kolkata is very close to Jaya’s heart. After spending the first few days of Puja here, the actress returned to Bangladesh on Navami morning. She admitted that she feels the same excitement for Durga Puja in both countries and doesn’t want to miss out on either celebration.
Jaya celebrates Durga Puja in Kolkata before returning to Bangladesh
In the residential complex where Jaya lives in Bangladesh, Durga Puja is celebrated with great grandeur. A large pandal is set up, and many devotees come to visit. The actress said she hurried back home so that she could attend her family’s Puja. “Otherwise,” she added, “I’d miss my home celebrations for the year.”
When asked about the difference between the two Pujas, Jaya explained, “Yes, there is a difference. In Bangladesh, the celebrations are big too, and there’s plenty of food and festivities. But it’s not the same as Kolkata. The Puja here has its own special charm.”
Before boarding her flight from Kolkata to Dhaka, the Bijoya actress, who's best known for her role as Padma, revealed that this trip to Bangladesh won’t be a long one. “I’ll be back in Kolkata in a couple of days,” she said with a smile. That means her Bijoya Dashami hugs and sweet exchanges will happen right here in Kolkata.
