Whenever you are speaking of the greatest hero of all time in Bengali cinema, Uttam Kumar's name is mentioned first. He is one of the finest 'icons' of Bengalis. Bengalis still get emotional about him today. Madhyamgram's Rabindrapally Young Association is creating a Kali Puja pandal paying tribute to Mahanayak Uttam Kumar. Their theme this year is "Bhabanaye Shototborshe Mahanayak"- which literary translates, “Mahanayak in thought of centenary”
The organizers of this renowned Kali Puja in Madhyamgram inform that this year their pandal will feature glimpses of Bengali hit films starring Mahanayak, along with pictures of special moments from Mahanayak's birth to death. Upon entering the pandal, visitors will hear Mahanayak's popular dialogues through lights, sound, camera, action. Along with superhit songs.
These will include dialogues and songs from the films - Sare Chuattar, Shapmochan, Amanush, Ananda Ashram, Harano Sur, Chawa Pawa, Saptapadi, Jibantrishna, Nayak, etc. A massive pandal is being constructed over approximately 1600 square feet near the flyover on Sodepur Road. Throughout the pandal, scenes from various popular Bengali films starring Mahanayak will be visible. Along with pictures of Uttam Kumar in different moods. The pandal artist is Manas Bhattacharya. Food Minister Rathin Ghosh will inaugurate this pandal on October 19.
Manas says, “Mahanayak Uttam Kumar is nostalgic for Bengalis. Viewers are still crazy to watch his films. I am very overwhelmed to work on such a Bengali personality. I hope the viewers will like it”. Bhaskar Saha, head of the puja committee, says, “Bengalis are facing extreme harassment when going to work in other states. Anti-Bengali and anti-Bengal sentiment is emerging in outside states. In this situation, we are highlighting such a Bengali in the Kali Puja pandal who remains in the hearts of Bengalis worldwide”.
Madhyamgram's Young Recreation Club's Kali Puja pandal is being built modeled after Thailand's famous Golden Temple. Construction work is proceeding rapidly at Subhas Maidan, adjacent to Madhyamgram's Chaumatha. The organizers here inform that visitors to Madhyamgram's Young Recreation Club's puja pandal will be able to familiarize themselves with Thai culture. The pandal's height is approximately 80 feet. About 90 feet in width. The idol has been made in harmony with the pandal. Along with this, there will be dazzling illumination from Chandannagar.
Kaushik Mukhopadhyay, head of the puja committee, says, “Bangkok's Golden Temple is being created using fiber, plywood, and various types of colors. There are many people in Madhyamgram who cannot afford to spend money to go to Thailand and visit the Golden Temple. Thinking of them, we are creating a pandal modeled after the Golden Temple. We believe that when visitors come to this pandal, they will be able to satisfy their taste for milk with buttermilk.”
