Who is Koldo Obieta Alberdi? Kerala Blasters’ new striker for ISL 2025-26

Kerala Blasters confirmed their first foreign signing, Koldo Obieta Alberdi, from Spain for the upcoming Super Cup 2025-26 and ISL 2025-26 season.

The Kerala Blasters have strengthened their attack by bringing in Spanish striker Koldo Obieta Alberdi just weeks before the Super Cup 2025–26 season kicks off. The centre-forward arrives on a one-year contract from Real Unión and Blasters' first foreign signing ahead of the ISL 2025-26 season.

Who is Koldo Obieta Albredi?

Koldo Obieta Alberdi, born in Gernika, Basque Country, started his football journey at his hometown club, Gernika Club, before making his senior debut in 2012. Over the years, he has featured prominently in various Spanish clubs, including stints with Zamudio, SD Amorebieta, CD Tudelano, and AD Alcorcón, among others, gaining valuable experience across Spain’s competitive leagues and consistently demonstrating his ability to find the net.

Kerala Blasters management stated in their press release that Koldo combines physical presence with aerial danger, solid positioning, and finishing skills both within the box and on transitions. They said, "While he naturally leads the line, he has shown versatility in recent seasons, adapting well to different forward roles within his team's setups."

Karolis Skinkys, the Director of Kerala Blasters Sporting stated that Koldo's inclusion in the roster will provide the team with additional attacking alternatives. "Obieta is an experienced forward who has represented various Spanish clubs. We believe his qualities will provide us with more attacking alternatives, and we are excited to get him into the club and see what he can bring to our assault.

Koldo will join teammates for the pre-season camp in Goa. Commenting on his signing, the 31-year-old Spanish man said: "When I received the offer, I looked up the club on the internet and learned a lot about the fans." I'm incredibly proud to be a member of this family. I can't wait to get on the pitch and give my all."

Kerala Blasters, Mumbai City FC, Hyderabad FC, and Rajasthan United FC have all been put into Group D of the Super Cup, which kicks off on October 25. On October 30, the Yellow Army will play Rajasthan United FC at the Bambolim Stadium to kick off their campaign. They will play Hyderabad FC in Bambolim on November 3 before playing Mumbai City FC at the Fatorda Stadium on November 6.

Kerala Blasters will start their campaign with fresh faces as they released a few of their important players in the last season. How the new team will pay off that will be interesting to see.
