Anger over a second girl child has fueled accusations of a horrific infanticide against the grandmother. The charge is the cold-blooded murder of a four-month-old girl for simply being born.
This gruesome incident unfolded in Barkhedi village of Seonimalwa, Narmadapuram district, Madhya Pradesh. The infant's body was recovered from a household well after a three-day disappearance. Police have apprehended the child's grandmother, Meenabai, in connection with the crime.
Reports suggest that the mother had left the sleeping infant in a cradle to do the dishes. When she returned, the child had vanished. Despite an exhaustive family search, the infant remained elusive. Allegations posit that the grandmother, seizing a moment of familial inattention, removed the child from the cradle and suffocated her with a towel.
Police sources reveal that the accused allegedly tied the lifeless body in a bundle and discarded it in a dry well. During the search, the child's grandfather spotted the suspicious package but was dissuaded from investigating by the accused, who claimed it contained soiled clothing. However, when police retrieved and unwrapped the bundle three days later, they discovered the deceased infant’s cold, dead body.
A police official disclosed that the post-mortem examination revealed asphyxiation as the cause of death. A towel, measuring 24 centimetres in length and 10 centimetres in width, was extracted from the child's mouth. Authorities claim the accused has confessed during interrogation. Meanwhile, the deceased infant's father, the accused's son, remains in disbelief over the allegations against his mother. Nevertheless, he says, "I demand justice for my child".
