On Monday, September 22, the Alipore special PoCSO court handed down a life sentence to the father, accused of committing sexual abuse against his six-year-old daughter.
The order was passed on a case that was filed eight years ago by the mother of the victim. In 2018, the wife of the convicted man filed a complaint against him at a police station in South Kolkata.
In the complaint, she mentioned that in her absence, the father of the victim took advantage of the child. which resulted in the child falling sick later on. The mother came to know about her husband's actions as a aftermath of the series of incidents.
How it all came into light
The picture became clear once the mother questioned the six-year-old, and the child revealed her father's wrongdoings, affirming the mother's suspicion. The father was later apprehended based on the complaint.
Court procedure
As per the guidelines, the victim's medical examination was performed. The results of this medical test confirmed the legitimacy of the complaint. In front of the court, the medical examination report worked as key evidence in the case. During the trial, a total of seven witnesses, including the doctor who performed the child's medical examination, presented their testimony in court.
The mother's and the victim's confidential testimonies were also documented. Based on all the evidence and the supporting testimony, the court reached the verdict of sentencing the father to life imprisonment.
