A lawyer from the Barasat court and his son have been accused of assaulting an auto-rickshaw driver following a dispute over 'overtaking'. In retaliation, neighbouring locals allegedly vandalized the lawyer's vehicle.

Tension was raised by the Wednesday night incident in the Nilganj neighborhood under the jurisdiction of the Duttapukur police station.

According to a complaint made by the wife of the autorickshaw driver, the lawyer and his son have been taken into custody by the police. It has been determined that the lawyer who was arrested is Kaushik Ghosh, and his son is Krishnendu Ghosh. The accused were brought to the Barasat court on Thursday, and the judge imposed a four-day judicial custody order. Biswajit Biswas, the hurt autorickshaw driver, is receiving medical attention at Barasat Hospital right now.

Reports suggest that on Wednesday night, Barasat court lawyer Kaushik and his college-going son Krishnendu were en route to Barrackpore in a four-wheeler via the Barasat-Barrackpore Road. Near Nilganj market, a dispute erupted with Biswajit over taking their way. Allegedly, the father-son duo abruptly came out of their vehicle and began brutally assaulting Biswajit.

Residents intervened to rescue Biswajit. Subsequently, a protest ensued, surrounding Kaushik and Krishnendu's vehicle, which reportedly culminated in vandalism. Duttapukur police arrived at the scene to bring the situation under control. Later that night, Biswajit's wife, Mamoni, lodged a formal complaint at Duttapukur police station. The police subsequently arrested the two accused. Mamoni lamented, "A lawyer is supposed to be a guardian of the law. It's appalling that he would resort to such actions over a trivial matter of giving way!”
