Scammer fled with van equipment worth 2 lakh rupees from Gobardanga, gets arrested in Kolkata

A Gobardanga businessman was duped out of nearly ₹2 lakh worth of engine van equipment after a man posing as a buyer fled without payment.

Someone had called a Gobardanga businessman and ordered two lakh rupees' worth of equipment for making engine vans. Even though the order was delivered accordingly, that 'someone' took the car equipment and ran off without paying.

Following an investigation into the businessman's complaint, the Bongaon police station arrested the scammer. Manotosh Das is the name of the person who was arrested. Five days of police custody were mandated by the judge when the arrested individual appeared in the Bongaon court on Thursday.

Amit Chowdhury runs a business selling vehicle equipment. His home and shop are in Gobardanga. On October 12, Manotosh Das, a resident of Gaighata, called and placed an order to buy engine van manufacturing equipment worth 2 lakh rupees. Wednesday was the delivery day. Manotosh said that the equipment needed to be delivered to his shop adjacent to Bongaon No. 1 railway gate. Accordingly, Amit had also arranged for the equipment to be delivered through his employee.

According to the allegation, Manotosh had taken equipment worth about one and a half lakh rupees from Kalupur in Bongaon. He said he would deliver the rest to his shop and take the money. But when he went to the Bongaon No. 1 railway gate area, despite searching extensively, the businessman could not find Manotosh's shop. Finally, he realised that he had been defrauded, Amit Chowdhury filed a complaint at the Bongaon police station. After conducting an investigation, Bongaon police station arrested fraudster Manotosh Das from Nagerbazar in Kolkata on Wednesday. Police also recovered vehicle equipment from him.
