9th September, Thursday: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took to Twitter, sharing a moment of pride for the state's academic excellence in NIRF.
According to the India Ranking 2025 (NIRF) released by the Ministry of Education, Jadavpur University has been declared the No.1 State Public University in the nation.
Adding to the glory, it has also ranked 9th among all universities in the nation, cutting across every category. Notably, it is the sole State University to be included in the Top 10 list, a rare distinction in India's higher education scenario.
Mamata Banerjee extended heartfelt congratulations to all the teachers, students, researchers and employees of Jadavpur University, terming it a shining symbol of Bengal's brilliance and national pride.
Banerjee wrote on X: “Happy to share that our pre-eminence in education is recognised again!
Ministry of Education, Government of India has announced the rankings of Higher Education Institutes of the country today, namely India Ranking 2025 (NIRF). This year, in the State Public University category, Jadavpur University is ranked first in the country, and 9th among all the Universities of all the categories in the country. It is the only State university to be in top 10 of the University list.

Jadavpur University topped the NIRF list, moving up from second place in 2024, surpassing Anna University which dropped to second place. The category highlights how well-established state-funded educational institutions have continuously supported affordable high-quality education throughout India.
