With a number of unique religious events, the Jagannath Temple in Digha has transformed into a centre of devotion and celebration this Durga Puja. The grand celebrations started with the Mahalya festivities. On that auspicious day, special pujas and offerings were performed after Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra were dressed in new garments. Since then, there have been constant prayers, ceremonies, and prasad distributions at the temple.

Festive Spirit Peaks from Saptami Onwards

Special pujas, aartis, and devotional songs filled the temple grounds starting on the morning of Saptami. Fo llowing the custom, the temple gates opened at six in the morning, and as the day passed, more worshippers showed up to receive blessings. Throughout the day, ISKCON monks led devotional kirtans and created the unique clothing for the deities by hand.

In order to guarantee that no devotee leaves without receiving prasad, the temple authorities have announced that the daily distribution of kirtans and prasad will continue until Dashami. Tight security measures have been put in place around the temple grounds to handle the increasing number of devotees. Additionally, garlands are being strung to adorn the temple courtyard in anticipation of Ashtami puja.

Joy and gratitude are expressed by devotees.

Mahesh Chandra Sahu, a visitor from Keshiyari in Paschim Medinipur, shared, “I had heard that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee built this temple in Digha. I finally got the chance to visit during Puja — it’s truly beautiful.”

Prabhu Sadhu Sevak Nitai Charan Das said, “Though the temple remains active throughout the year, Durga Puja brings a special significance. Many devotees visit during this time, and we make sure everyone receives prasad.”

The Jagannath Dham in Digha, glowing with lights and devotion, stands as a symbol of spiritual unity and festive celebration this Durga Puja season.
