Day after day, a young girl was harassed at school. According to reports, her parents had also called up the school authorities several times to complain about the harassment, but no action was ever taken. Finally, she could not bear it any longer. On November 1, the Class IV girl went to school and jumped off the fifth floor. She died on the spot. The parents have alleged that a group of her classmates frequently harassed and taunted their 9-year-old girl. They said they repeatedly informed the school authorities, class teacher, and the principal, but no steps were taken. The incident occurred at the Neerja Modi School in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

According to her father, Vijay Meena and mother Shivani Meena, this harassment had been going on for a long time. About a year ago, their daughter had said that she did not want to go to school, a message her mother recorded on WhatsApp and sent to the class teacher. Vijay Meena said, “For the past year, I have repeatedly spoken to the class teacher and class coordinator, but they never paid any attention.” The parents claimed the girl was not only harassed but also subjected to sexually suggestive taunts.

Vijay Meena added that he once raised this issue during a parent-teacher meeting. He recalls, “A teacher told me, ‘It’s a co-ed school. My daughter has to learn to talk to all children, including boys.’ I had told her that if my daughter does not want to talk to a boy, it is entirely her decision.”

Even before jumping, the girl approached the teacher

The girl had gone to the teacher twice, even before jumping. The investigators examined the classroom CCTV footage, which showed her coming up to the teacher, but what was said could not be comprehended. According to the guidelines of CBSE, even classroom recordings should have audio, but the footage had no sound.

The girl's close relative Sahil, said, "We want answers from the school. The school has six floors and 5,000 students. How was this floor built without grills or safety nets? Why is there no audio in the CCTV footage? The footage must be preserved for 15 days. Jaipur has such a large school that charges such a high fee, yet they show no responsibility."

The police have initiated their investigations into the incident. According to the Jaipur police, the parents' statements have been recorded, and all aspects are being examined. The local District Education Officer also confirmed that the parents' statements will be documented officially. The school authorities have not commented on the matter.
