The convict, Aleem Baba, was also fined Rs 10,000. The incident took place earlier this year when the survivor’s husband was abroad for work.

Court delivers firm verdict in rape case

In a strong judgment underscoring zero tolerance for sexual crimes within families, a local court in Azamgarh on Friday sentenced a man, Aleem Baba, to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping his daughter-in-law.

Additional Sessions Judge Santosh Kumar Yadav pronounced the verdict and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict, according to a PTI report.

According to the prosecution, the survivor lived in Jiyanpur town with her in-laws, while her husband was working in Qatar. The incident occurred in January 2024, when the survivor’s mother-in-law was away at her ancestral home, leaving her alone with her father-in-law. Taking advantage of the situation, Aleem Baba allegedly raped her. When she resisted, he assaulted and threatened her to remain silent.

Survivor’s courage ensures justice

The survivor later confided in her mother, who helped her file an FIR at the Jiyanpur police station nearly five months after the incident. The case was investigated thoroughly, and the police collected evidence linking the accused to the crime.

“After hearing arguments from both sides, the court found Aleem Baba guilty and handed down the decade-long sentence and the monetary fine,” court officials said, as reported by PTI.
