A 20-year-old postgraduate student was allegedly abducted and gang-raped by three men in Coimbatore on Sunday night after being attacked while sitting in a parked car with her boyfriend near Brindhavan Nagar, behind the city airport.
As per a report by the Times of India, the police said, "They broke the windshield of the car and attacked the boyfriend with weapons. They threatened the woman and took her on their moped to a deserted spot a kilometre away, where they repeatedly raped her." The incident occurred around 10.30 pm when the couple had parked their vehicle.

The injured boyfriend alerted the Peelamedu police around 11 pm, who immediately launched a search operation. The survivor was traced around 4 am, while the accused had already fled, leaving behind the stolen moped they used in the crime. The woman was later admitted to a private hospital in the city.
Suspects nabbed after encounter
The police added that the three accused - Sathish, Guna and Karthik, all from Madurai district, were arrested on Monday night following an encounter. The men, reportedly daily wage labourers staying in a rented room in Coimbatore, sustained injuries and were admitted to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.
“The cameras failed to capture their faces due to the glare,” said the police source. City police commissioner A Saravana Sundar said, "She is in a state of shock, and her friend's health condition is stable. We have formed seven special teams to nab the culprits."

According to City Police Commissioner A Saravana Sundar, seven special teams were formed to trace and arrest the accused. Officers also showed the survivor over 60 photographs of known offenders. "She couldn't recognise the attackers," the police said further.
AIADMK, BJP leaders visit crime spot
As per the report by The Times of India, the incident has caused widespread outrage in Tamil Nadu. AIADMK’s women’s wing announced a protest against the assault and urged the government to implement more stringent safety measures for women. BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan visited the scene of the crime on Monday evening with party workers.
