A 20-year-old student was injured in a brutal acid attack near Laxmi Bai College in Ashok Vihar, Delhi, on Sunday. The college authorities have clarified that the incident took place outside the campus and that the victim was a Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB) student, not a regular one.

College Proctor Dr. Manraj Gurjar said, “She is an NCWEB student, not a regular college student. This incident happened outside the college campus, on the main road. There was a PCR van within 50 metres of the site, with a female police officer always present.”

Accused identified, stalking angle emerges

The key accused has been identified as Jitender, a resident of Mukundpur, along with his associates Ishan and Arman. According to officials, Jitender had been stalking the victim and had a heated argument with her about a month ago.

Delhi University Students’ Union President, Aryan Maan, told The NewsMill that Jitender, who is married and has a young child, had been harassing the student for over a year. “I met my sister, and she told me that the accused had been stalking her for a year and a half. Despite her repeated warnings, he continued to misbehave with her,” Maan said.

“She said three men came on a bike, took out a bottle of acid and tried to throw it at her. She tried to save herself with her bag, but the acid hit her hands. She has suffered five per cent burns. The main culprit, Jitender, must be arrested immediately.”

Police statement and case details

Delhi Police confirmed the attack, stating that the victim sustained acid burn injuries on both hands.

“A call was received from Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital regarding the admission of a 20-year-old woman with acid burn injuries. The victim stated she is a second year (non-college) student and had gone to Laxmi Bai College for her class,” police said in a statement.

“While she was walking towards the college, her acquaintance Jitender, along with Ishan and Arman, approached her on a motorcycle. Ishan allegedly handed over a bottle to Arman, who threw acid on her. The accused then fled the spot,” the statement added.

Police teams, including the Crime Team and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) unit, have inspected the scene. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation is underway.
