A horrific incident rocked Nand Nagri in northeast Delhi on Monday morning when a 20-year-old woman was stabbed multiple times by a man believed to be her former lover. The accused, Akash (23), a sweeper by profession and resident of the same area, allegedly attacked the woman near her home around 10.30 am, police said.
According to officials, the woman suffered several stab wounds and was rushed to GTB Hospital, where doctors declared her dead-on arrival. The crime scene was later inspected by a forensic team, and the body was sent for post-mortem examination. Police have registered a case under relevant sections at the Nand Nagri Police Station and have begun a detailed probe.
Victim’s mother recounts tragic morning
The victim’s mother said her daughter had gone out briefly to buy samosas when the attack occurred. “She was my only daughter. She never left home. I never even used to send her to the market. Today, she just went to get some samosas. I was taking a shower when she asked if I wanted any, but I told her I was fasting and to get some for herself.” she told PTI.
"After that, I heard the boy who killed her shouting, ‘I killed her, I killed her' in our lane. I ran out to look for her and found her lying near the school,” she continued.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused and the woman were in a relationship for three to four years, but she had recently begun to distance herself from him. Police suspect that Akash, upset over the breakup, planned the attack.
Efforts are on to recover the weapon used in the crime, and further investigation is underway, officials added.
