Man kills wife over alleged in-laws’ interference, posts Instagram video before committing suicide

A man from Dhamtari allegedly killed his wife and then died by suicide, citing in-law interference. The police started an investigation after the bodies had been recovered.

A young man from Chhattisgarh’s Dhamtari district, identified as Hitesh Yadav alias Himmat (22), allegedly killed his wife and then died by suicide, blaming constant interference from his in-laws in their married life. According to police, before taking his own life, Hitesh recorded a video on Instagram confessing to the murder of his wife, Laxmi Yadav (20).

Police said that Hitesh and Laxmi were married about a year ago. They had set up their household at Hitesh's ancestral home in Hardi village under the Karelbadi police outpost in Dhamtari district. However, Hitesh alleged that from the beginning of their married life, his wife's family members repeatedly interfered in their relationship. This led to deterioration in their relationship.

According to Hitesh's claim, A few months after marriage, they went to live at Laxmi's father's house in Mahandi village. They started living there. After that, Laxmi's family started controlling their lives completely.

During Diwali, Hitesh had come to his house in Hardi village with his wife. Hitesh's family members last saw them alive around 11 PM on Monday. They told police that around 11 PM, Hitesh had gone into their room with his wife.

On Tuesday morning, no sound was heard from them. Hitesh's family members repeatedly knocked on the door. But no one responded. Then one of Hitesh's elder brothers peeked through the window of the room. He saw Hitesh's lifeless body hanging from the ceiling of the room and his wife's body lying on the floor.

Police were immediately informed. Reaching the spot, police broke down the door, recovered both bodies and sent them for post-mortem. Forensic department personnel were also called to the scene.

On Wednesday, an officer of Dhamtari district police said that according to the post-mortem report, Laxmi was killed by strangulation with something like a handkerchief. Hitesh committed suicide by wrapping a sari around his neck. The officer said that further investigation is being conducted to determine whether anyone else was involved in this incident.
