Massive explosion blows away parts of railway tracks in Assam

It is suspected that the explosion was caused using improvised explosive devices.

A massive explosion took place between Kokrajhar and Salakathi stations of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) late at night. A part of the upline was blown away by the intensity of the explosion. According to sources, the incident took place at around 1 am on the 23rd. As a result, the railway line has been damaged. People who live near the railway tracks could hear loud noises at night. Several houses were also reportedly shaken. Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer, Northeast Frontier Railway, said that the Assam Police has been entrusted with the investigation, while train services were restored by 5 am on Thursday.

At around 1 am, a freight train loaded with sugar was on its way. Suddenly, the train shook violently. The manager hurriedly stopped the train. Preliminary inspection showed that a section of the track and several sleepers were damaged.

Teams of Assam Police, Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), and intelligence agencies rushed to the spot. The type of explosives used is under investigation. The railways said the incident is suspected to be an act with a hidden motive. Investigations are underway, and security has been increased in the area.

Train services on the damaged railway line were suspended for a few hours as engineers worked through the night to repair the tracks. Train services resumed at 5:25 a.m. after the emergency repair work was completed. However, due to this incident, at least eight trains were delayed.
