A 50-year-old Pakistani woman was detained by South Tripura railway police at Sabroom railway station after she allegedly broke out of a prison in Nepal where she was serving a drug trafficking sentence.

When the Kanchenjunga Express arrived from Kolkata on Friday, the woman was arrested because the police thought her behavior was suspicious. She was unable to produce proper identification, initially identifying herself as Saheena Parveen from Purani Basti in Delhi, but the address and information didn’t add up; instead, several phone numbers connected to Pakistan were found during a search of her possessions.

During the interrogation, she introduced herself as a Punjabi Pakistani national who had been working as a domestic helper in Delhi for three years after entering India illegally through West Bengal after entering Bangladesh. She claimed to be attempting to travel through Bangladesh to get back to Pakistan.

Who is Louis Nighat Akhtar Bhano?

NewsMill reported, “during further interrogation, she disclosed her real identity as Louis Nighat Akhtar Bhano, wife of Md. Golaf Faraj from Village Younganabad, Chak No. 371, District Sheikhupura, Pakistan. She had moved to Nepal 12 years ago using a Pakistani passport and became involved in drug trafficking.”

Bhano was given a 15-year prison term after being apprehended in Kathmandu in 2014 with one kilogram of brown sugar. She was detained until she allegedly escaped during civil unrest last month.

Police stated that she crossed into India illegally two weeks ago, again with the help of agents, and travelled to Tripura via train after failing to find a crossing point in West Bengal. She reached Sabroom to enter Bangladesh.

Bhano is currently in police custody and is being further interrogated to verify her claims and probe possible links to cross-border trafficking networks.
